City of St. Petersburg to Host Free Tree Giveaway at Autumn Harvest Festival

September 16, 2025 - The City of St. Petersburg invites residents to participate in a free tree giveaway Saturday, October 11, during the Autumn Harvest Festival at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve. This giveaway is part of the City's Community Canopy Initiative, a bold effort to plant 1,000 trees citywide in 2025.

Know Before You Go:

  • This event is open to all St. Pete residents.

  • Approximately 400 trees are available during this giveaway.

  • One tree will be given out to each household on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • All trees must be planted on private property and not in a right of way.

  • Bring buckets and containers, as organic soil and mulch will be available as well.

  • Residents can learn about different tree species and select the one best suited for their home, based on availability.

  • Five tree varieties will be distributed based on availability: sweetbay magnolia, gumbo limbo, orange geiger, American elm, and mango.

About the Community Canopy Initiative

The Community Canopy Initiative aims to expand St. Pete’s urban tree canopy, which offers a variety of benefits including improved air quality, reduced heat island effect, and increased biodiversity. By providing free trees to residents, the City of St. Petersburg hopes to create a greener, healthier urban environment that will benefit the community for generations to come.
